, is a Japanese light novel series written by Yuu Miyazaki and illustrated by Okiura. Media Factory has published 8 volumes since September 2012 under their MF Bunko J imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Ningen began serialization in Media Factory's ''seinen'' manga magazine ''Monthly Comic Alive'' from January 2013. It has been collected in two tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation by A-1 Pictures began airing on October 3, 2015. The first half of the anime television series adaptation airs from October to December 2015 and has been licensed by Aniplex of America in North America. The second half will begin airing in April 2016. ==Characters== ; : :The main protagonist of the series. At the start of the series, he is the new transfer student of Seidōkan Academy and uses the Amagiri Shinmei Style. On his first day, he is challenged to a duel by Julis because of the embarrassing events that happened between them when they first meet. During the duel, Julis is attacked by an unknown attacker by an arrow and saved by Ayato but they end up in a very embarrassing position. However, the duel was stopped by Claudia. He meets his childhood friend Saya at school after not seeing each other for five years due to Saya moving to overseas with her father. Julis shows him and Saya around the school and the next day around the city with only the two of them as to thank him for saving her during the duel. He is claimed to be powerful and his opponents never live to tell the tale by Saya which Julis does not believe. He came to Seidōkan Academy to investigate his sister's disappearance and to find what he is supposed to do (later claimed that is to protect Julis). ; : :Rank 5 of Seidōkan Academy and also known as "Gruene Rose", she is Lieseltania's First Princess. Her full name is Julis-Alexia Marie Florentia Renate von Riessfelt. She wields a rapier-lux type called ''Aspera Spina'' which she uses during the Phoenix tournament and bears the image of a flower for her power. Her power can produce flames. She is usually distant from other students but is friendly to Ayato as she greets him when he does while she normally won't to other students. During her duel with Ayato when they first meet, she was attacked by an unknown attacker but is saved by Ayato from being shot by a arrow and then the duel was stopped by Claudia. Due to this event, she shows Ayato around the school and the city as to thank him from saving her. She enters the Phoenix because she needed money for the orphanage back home. After being saved by Ayato, she agrees to join Ayato for the Phoenix and became the strategist of the two. ; : :Saya is Ayato's childhood friend. She seems to be air-headed and emotionless but she blushes when she is with Ayato. She uses Gun-type(?) Lux which can shoot powerful blasts. ; : :Rank 2 of Seidōkan Academy and the Student Council President, she is the one who recommended Ayato to come to the academy. She attained the position of President since junior high and wants to win the Gryps in order to make her wish came true. She is the user of pan-dora, which allows her to see into the future during duels. ; : :Former Rank 1 of Seidōkan Academy. Requested a duel against Ayato Amagiri in Episode 5 "Lightning Blade Speed" and won the duel. She seems to be influenced by her uncle and is afraid of him. Ayato stopped her uncle from beating her and challenged him to a duel to stop beating her in the future. He accepted the duel but the opponent was Kirin herself. Ayato ultimately lost the duel because of the limitation of his abilities caused by his sister and the lightning speed of Kirin. ; : :Seidokan Academy's ranked 9th. He was formally ranked 5th until Julis defeated him. His Lux is an axe named Bardiche Leo. Despite his usual attitude, he's actually decent when he comes to Julis's rescue, and helps Ayato on a few occasions. ; : :Ayato's roommate. Well known as a member of the academy's newspaper club, he's also a member of the Shadow Star a secret police force that works for the Integrity Enterprises Foundation (which is essentially the world government). ; : :The homeroom teacher of year 1 class 3.
